Gordon Liu & Wang Yue!
He Has Nothing But Kung Fu (1984). Shaw superstar Gordon Liu features in this later period non-Shaw production. "Hoi (Gordon Liu), the son of the district magistrate Shuen, is ordered by his father to check into the illegal activities of the landlord Wong. Hoi is ambushed on his way to the work houses and in the fierce battle that ensues, Hoi is thrown over an embankment and left for dead. Hoi, however, is not dead. His memory gone, Hoi wanders into the doorway of Hsiah (Wang Yue, not Jimmy), a beggar of the streets. Through this fateful meeting, the two become friends and an unstoppable kung fu pair". This isn't a bad movie, but it's not a great one either, despite its being directed by the legendary LIU CHIA YUNG. What you get here are two great actor/ fighters though. These two really made history with Shaw Brother's "Dirty Ho". They were sorta like a later day "Ti Lung/ David Chiang", who were also two frequently paired bad-asses in their day. Though I don't mind writing a lengthy review (if you hadn't noticed), I agree with the concise sentiments of a guy named Perkele: "... it's the authentic fighting action that lifts this one up from the endless pit of bullshit independent 70's productions." It's a solid 6 and 1/2 out of 10, bordering on 7, so its worth viewing and was made for those lazy Sunday or Saturday afternoons when Sound of Music just won't cut it, heh heh. Matt
