this is a fun movie, but it is one drug addled and post-production prostituted cluster fornication. i wish i had watched "sam's first cut" on the extras dvd first. on the other hand, that version is full of bleeps and bloops. i find it hard to believe it is the same footage shown to preview audiences. if so, it is no wonder they "walked out." on the dvd, it has irritating intertitles inserted, trying to tell you where the "alternate" footage begins and ends. disingenuously, they ignore the key plot point revealed early in the theatrical release that not only blows the tension but also makes the movie more confusing rather than less so. peckinpaw should have been allowed to finish this, his last movie. its always nice to see meg "they live" foster, scary blue eyes and all. it was amusing to watch "fassett" (john "alien" hurt), who is covertly watching the reunion on surveillance cameras, wryly join in on the toast "here's to john tanner's ass," an in joke about hurt's homosexuality, which i assume was still in the closet at the time.
