rod recommended this troma team "movie festival" compilation on the strength of "please kill mr. kinski" from the director of "crawlspace." if you're a kinski fan or hater (and if you know his work, you're probably both) you need to see this. i don't want to weaken it by revealing anything about it. i haven't seen "my best fiend" yet, but, on the strength of this, i'm putting it and "crawlspace" on priority. the other four shorts are forgettable. "h.r. pukenshitte" is typical troma fare, perhaps a bit wittier than most, with a jilted man trying to drink himself to death only to have his "french guardian angel" arise from his vomit. "harry knuckles" is a james bond fantasy with ripoffs of santo, the aztec mummy, and what i assume are other characters from the lucha / mexican horror genres. it might amuse some fans of camp, but it was pretty thin. “the psychotic odyssey of richard chase” was “inspired” by todd haynes “superstar: the karen carpenter story.” it is the life of the serial killer told using dolls. it seemed like it should be interesting, but it made so little impression i had to look it up on the internet to remember it, after having watched it only yesterday. this might be because i just finished "true vampires," a book that included him in it. the last short, some crap about a dinner party, was literally unwatchable for me.
