without the pressure to make a "mainstream" american movie, rene cardona, jr. slips in a lot more sleaze with this "jaws" rip-off (in more ways than one: the "jaws" elements are minimal) than with "guyana [pick your sub-title]". for one thing, there's plenty of tasty female nudity, at near soft-core porn levels, including generous slabs of legendary susan george. the theme is that american women tourists in mexico can't get enough of the local "flavor," even to the point of deciding that being raped by rustic truck drivers on top of a load of oranges isn't so bad, after all. "pay for as many [oranges] as you want." cardona regular hugo stiglitz plays his usual wealthy playboy sociopath. he takes on local hustler "redhead" as a general purpose flunky, with a strong suggestion of bisexuality. most of the (typically cardona) dialogue seems to be along these lines: "what's a zazil?" "its a mayan word for scotch on the rocks." "well, i think i'll have a vodka tonic." "[i'll have] a snail ceviche [gag! retch!], a grouper sandwich, and a cold beer." be sure to play the english subtitles when watching the english language option, which contains long stretches of spanish. the dvd extras include a trailer for "poison for the fairies," which seems more suitable for the "guyana..." dvd.
