there's not much action here, but it is a must see for anyone as fascinated by the arctic and antarctic as i am, especially for anyone with my fetish for silent and early sound movies. the british upper lip is frozen stiffer than usual, but this version is honest about scott's failure to be first to the pole, if not about his reputed incompetence as polar explorer. the disputed claim is made that they did reach the pole, and documented, in his journal, seeing amundsen's flag already there, before dying after retracing their steps partway back to base. the gratuitously insulting name given the mascot black cat (dropped twice, very casually) should be a wake-up to anyone who believes the term originated in the southern united states.
