Cut, Rescored, & Dubbed, oh My!
This movie was released in 1994 as a follow-up (and last pure martial arts outting) to Jackie's Drunken Master, and it was called Drunken Master II. Disney (subsidiary Miramax- Dimension) recently bought distribution rights to a ton of Hong Kong movies (especially Jet Li and Jackie Chan). Ok so far, but all of the Disney stuff gets dubbed, rescored, & cut (you see, you as an American just don't need that stuff, right?) Adding insult to injury, they are making it illegal for other retailers to even SELL the originals!! Well, some people don't care about all that and some do. When I can, I like to see a flick (esp. a foreign one) in its original presentation. So while this is a very good presentation (visually), it lacks a lot of things originally present. The film is a 9 out of 10 star martial arts movie, period. Disney takes away from things by releasing such an altered product. Disney gets a 2 out of 10 star rating from me for bad business practices. Anyway, see this movie! I just recommend getting the original [if you can find it!!!] Matt
