this is pretty bland blaxploitation. there are plenty of breasts and violence, but it all seems dispirited, by the numbers. it seems to have been roughly “inspired” by the black panthers: “the people’s army” runs a soup kitchen and other public services. since “general ahmed” has an islamic name, i guess frost got the rest of the “plot” from the pictures in time magazine of malcom x’s ridiculous seven man “army.” the only attempt to link the “army” in this movie to fascism is one offhand sentence about increasing discipline switching to “more distinctive” uniforms. after tossing out the handful of feeble winos that were supposed to be the mafia family running watts, the rest of the violence is black on black. the luxury “basic training camp,” complete with carribean waiters and white hos, is something to see.
