this hard to find 1985 south african pro-apartheid movie is an amazing piece of transgressive camp. the political content is jaw-dropping wrong. the action sequences are hilariously incompetent. some of the acting is surprisingly good, which just drives the insanity deeper into your brain. one glaring performance flaw in "black terrorist" is the wtfwt? off-the-mark accent of the "yank" (american) character. as to the political content: the attractive young female character allows her pre-teen son to sacrifice himself so that she can escape. i've never seen or read about anything as backward as this astounding documentation of the subordination of white women under white males, even young boys, during apartheid. the actual release title of this movie was simply "terrorist," with the ethnic identity of any terrorist being a given. the symbolism in this movie is as accessible as that in a bolshevik agitprop production. the terrorists are all outside agitators, aided by a lone black local "traitor," who the terrorists repay with execution. the message was that revolution would not only doom the whites, but also the local blacks, who would not be forgiven for having co-operated with the whites. the idealistic leader of the terrorists, the nelson mandela stand-in, is murdered by the evil rapist, the sole survivor of the insurrectionary trio, a statement that the country would descend into horrific lawlessness after the revolution. a whisky chugging white man, who is otherwise heroic in intent, is doomed by his vice. the commando character, who works undercover as a gas station attendant, delivers unapologetically bigoted dialogue. the stinky icing on this wet-rotted bull flop is the interesting lo-fi musical score, which ranges from watered down blaxploitation grooves to australian sounding booze jams to the unmistakable roots of fraternity boy favorite dave matthews, who was south african born and raised. if you survive watching "black terrorist" with enough singed cortical function to carry another tape home, and are incurably infected with insatiable bad movie masochism, you might want to check out "albino." this 1976 christopher lee vehicle is harder to shrug off. the nelson mandela character is played as evil incarnate by horst frank, a white german.
