<[:-} romancing the kidney stone?
the first indication that this movie is unredeemably wrong comes with "simon," our hero, a small boy, watching in horror as his grandpa lies in bed emitting a stream of hideous moans and grunts of agony. cancer? no, just kidney stones. this movie has been released before in america under the title "chasing the kidneystone." simon's perverted talking teddy bear convinces him to drink an "alice in wonderland" shrink potion and enter grandpa's stinky carcass to do battle with various evil forces, including the terrorist "stonetroopers." he fights "the flu wars" alongside the "white blood cell brigade." the original norwegian dialogue has been replaced with english dubbing that is more grammatically correct than almost all dubs and surprisingly colloquial, but still manages to be more demented than the usual "your brain are all belong to us" dubjobs. typical lines: "you dork. you can't just jump down the windpipe." "what are you? post-nasal drip?" the production values are very good, allowing for very imaginative, visually arresting sets & props, including the phone hot line to the frying brain that could be straight out of "existenz." even the good guys have a leather biker bar / fascist stench about them. the male "red blood cells" wear form fitting latex suits with prominent, hard nipples, worse than any of the "batman" abominations.
