THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE
While listening to shortwave, a little known black, blind blues singer named Paul Pena stumbles across an odd style of singing from the country of Tuva. Pena studies and masters this style and goes to Tuva (an obscure region of the Soviet Union between Mongolia and Siberia) to participate in a music festival. His unlikely journey is the focus of this delightful, fascinating documentary. To the Tuvans, Pena is like a being from another world who, incredibly, sings their difficult music so well. To the blind Pena, Tuva is a magic land whose natural beauties are closed to him. His acceptance by the gracious Tuvans is very touching. Irresistible! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
