MAY SEEM 8 1/2 HOURS LONG
If you see yourself as a sophisicated intellectual (and who among W&W's customers isn't?, you may find something of value in Fellini's eighth and one-half film. If you are more of a Joe or Jane Sixpack type, this will undoubtably seem like one of the most boring, worthless pieces of crap you've ever wasted two hours of your life on. Similar in some respects to LA DOLCE VITA, but lighter in tone, this depiction of a harrassed, indecisive film director is considered a comedy. The most memorable scene (and somewhat analogous to the orgy scene in DOLCE)is probably of Marcello Mastroianni in a cowboy hat trying to keep his many disputing female stars in line with a bullwhip! And in a film with several beauties, you will probably remember best the lascivious dance done by the fat, ugly woman (sorry-her name escapes me). As do all of Fellini's films to some extent, 8 1/2 captures the glorious, sloppy mess that we call life. But whether it's a minor masterpiece or a crashing bore, you must decide.

Simply perfect
This movie is simply a masterpiece made by a genius. This movie is profound and reaches the soul and depicts it in all its complexity. Marcello, maybe protraying Fellini himself, shall meet the three most important women of his life: - his mother, - his wife (the ravishing Anouk Aimée) - and his mistress. By doing so, Fellini brings us to the inner being of this successfull man finally so lonely. This a true introspective voyage inside our human nature which will not leave you without scars, the ones that count, the ones that lead to know ourselves. With this movie, Fellini proves that he may well be the best film director of all time. A must for every serious film collector.
