to enjoy this kind of stuff you have to be thick-skinned enough to laugh off the bigotry that fuels it from start to finish. unless you have good remote fu, you get a short intro by deodato before the feature starts. it seems he had too much integrity to do a direct sequel to “cannibal holocaust,” so we get this battle between ruthless cocaine trade denizens. what follows is so wrong minded and stupid that it entertains rather than offends. no one could take this psychotic mess seriously. we have an amazon basin rain forest coke manufuacturing operation. cocaine is grown and processed in the mountains. this is kind of like having a civil war cotton plantation in alaska. no sweat, we still get to be frightened by the savagery of loin-clothed amazonians again. add eric la salle as a pimp/informant in full 60’s blaxploitation drag, in a film released in 1985. lisa blount from “prince of darkness” plays the feisty female newshound. all told, its mind buggering enough to be great fun.
