These comments pertain to the Ground Zero edition of this
Brave Archer.
I can't say a lot about this movie other than
it has generated a lot of discussion over the years.
It is rumored that there is no pristine print of
this available, that the original masters were destroyed
in a fire (there are about four parts to the "Brave Archer"
series, originally called "Kung Fu Warlords").
In addition, its hard to find a copy
dubbed into english and uncut. And thats what we have here: a poor
picture and a drastically edited movie! About 40-50 mins cut (it was
originaly over 2 hours). Can you take 45 minutes out
of a movie and still have a comprehensable story? that's dicey.
So if you are a shaw fan, fu sheng fan, or just have got
to 'see everything', then put this on your list. I can only
recommend renting this (as opposed to owning it) since the
picture quality is weak and the film is severly cut. How can
I rate the end product? What I think is this: Its probably about
an 8 on the scale (given the perfect copy, which does not seem to exist).
But as it is I can't give it more than a 6.
