MITCHUM AND MONROE
Robert Mitchum is a strong, silent rancher and the Great Marilyn is a good-hearted saloon singer in this 1954 western directed by Otto Preminger. When Monore's no-good gambler boyfriend (Rory Calhoun) steals Mitchum's horse and gun, he (that is, Mitchum) and Monroe are forced to pursue him via raft on a dangerous river. En route, they battle bad guys, cougers and Indians before catching up with the nasty Calhoun. Young Tommy Rettig of future LASSIE fame is Mitchum's adoring son. My main complaint against this film is the God-awful soundtrack that has Marilyn lip syncing three goofy, corny, totally inappropriate songs. Otherwise it's really not too bad.
