Great Action, Great Cast!
Blooded Treasury Fight This is a 1979 movie (Hong Kong, but non-Shaw bros. I think) featuring a lot of talant from the likes of David Chiang, Tan Taio Liang (‘flashlegs’), the fierce and lovely Lily Li, and the superbly evil Chen Hui Ming, not to mention several other decent supporting actors (who have indeed been in many Shaw films). This story is complex (as they go) and revolves around a government agent, Marshall Chang’s attempts to locate and recover a hidden cashe of Treasure located upon the premises of a huge compond inhabited by a group of rebels led by Tang Pa (Chen Hui Ming), who feels it rightly belongs to him. The movie is FULL of betrayals and double-dealing and really catches you off guard since what appears one way is switching up every ten minutes! Be prepared for a bare-nuckled 90 minutes and the “grist-mill” showdown. All in all this movie leaves an impression most in its class would not. The piece is successful with many fans I think because of the several strong leading roles (as opposed to one or two), good pacing, clarity of picture, set design, and very good filming, which at times lends a freamlike and somewhat symbolic air to the work as a whole. The movie makes a lot of peoples lists of fav.s and you’ll see why if you rent it. Not perfect, but a cut above the rest. You can actually get this on dvd for around $14.99 if you scout around. - Matt
