<[:-\ leaves a not-so-fresh flava
for a nunsploitation film, “flavia...” has high production values, dignified acting, and has a consistent pretense of feminism, but it is blunt, stupid, and sadistic. the notion that muslim soldiers from the crusade years were sensitive and sympathetic to women is sick. this version of “flavia...” has rather explicit torture fx. i had pretty much tuned this movie out when a great sequence caught my eye. herbal incense wafts post-coital flavia into a short dream that is lighthearted, somewhat erotic and highly trippy. whatever she was second-hand smoking, the movie could have done with a lot more of it.
