i think any movie that explores the possibilities of human women getting it on with gorillas or demons or whatever is usually worth checking out. besides a wee bit of tna, there’s not much here but a lot of lame american b-movie style wisecracking interspersed with some supernatural psychotronica. the subtitles have phrases like “i don’t reckon...” which indicates they were added by someone from the southern usa. i’m enough of a snob to wonder if they understood japanese, or just winged it all. the overall effect is very bland, obviously targeted to a very young audience. a peek at the 6 “coming attractions” in the extras, two each of three series including the “gamera” franchise, proves the distributor is targeting children. the good guy was prominently advertised as a professional wrestler, and i’m pretty sure they’re talking smackdown and not sumo. there’s a slapstick plot thread about a “holy” huckster that turns into a more serious statement about the recent attacks in some rural areas of east asia on outsiders caused by irrational fear born of bigotry.
