<[:-\ its a good thing the bride wore white
the theme music for “bastoni” is probably the most interesting feature of the movie. it features very good, rootsy, slide guitar backed by a loose, shuffling cajun beat, (but with an annoying coach’s whistle, like a donna summer song). “bastoni” tries to explore the absurdities inherent in the lives of porn workers, like “boogie nights.” it has its moments, but it doesn’t compare well at all to “boogie nights.” the characters don’t have much depth and come across sheeplike. i’m sure this was intentional, but it doesn’t make for a very involving movie. the most outrageous scene suggests the practical side of choosing white for bridal dresses. in fact, that segment, with the theme of a soccer player marrying a porn actress, made me wonder if they were taking a pot shot at posh spice and her celebrity hubby. soccer plays a big part in the movie, to contrast the real passion people display for the sport with the zombie-like apathy they display toward sex acts.
