Bruce Li and Yuen Siu Tin
Blind Fists of Bruce Year: 1979 This fmovie stars: Bruce Li, Yuen Siu Tin, Tiger Yueng, Chang Tao, Lam Kin Ming. Far as I know, Bruce Li is the only star of note (I can't say the other actors left very deep impressions!), except for The blind guy who plays Yah's teacher. I tend to get into master/ disciple stories and the blind guy is a pretty cool character! Another reviewer wrote: " Bruce Li is Yah a rich guy who owns a bank. He has two idiotic kung fu teachers who know nothing about kung fu. Two guys try to rob the bank, but Yah beats them up. Turns out the guys were hired by Yah's two moron teachers to make Yah look good. But when the bank gets robbed for real, Yah gets beat up real good cuz his kung fu sucks. Fu, the guy who robbed the bank, sets up his racket in town and starts hitting up the local merchants for protection or tax money or something. Here we meet the old blind guy played by Yuen Siu Tin of Drunken Master fame." I just saw this one recently and can't say much about it. There are pluses and minuses here. On the up side you tend to have a good picture with decent sound - these are important! On the downside I found much of the choreography to be tedious, I found the acting to be so-so, and the story and setting a bit too 'old hat'. One tends to find this cheap if they are looking to buy (Bretwoods DVD goes for about $6.99). You'd probably rather just rent it - it is a 'classic' in terms of the many many 'bruceploitation flicks out there, and Bruce Li certainly could cut a mean Bruce Lee pose, as he did bear similar features (though forget about any similarities in the fighting department. Still, Bruce Li was never interested in really imitating Bruce Lee and these movies should be taken as non-related chop socky and evaluated on their own merit as martial arts movies).
