typical hollywood crap
Big disappointment! Some decent fight scenes and good cinematography can't redeem this load of hollywood dung. Russell Crowe displays one emotion throughout the film; grim determination. Even in scenes where he should be celebratory or even relieved it is the same old long faced maximus moping about his family. I blame hollywood for this, the want to make movies so bland that the hero has to be infallible and not display any complex emotions or traits. He has to be all pure or evil with no gray areas. Also this film featured the most implausible ending I have seen on the big screen in a long time. We all know how it should end and the filmmaker doesn't disappoint but he sets it up in such a ridiculous fashion that it really left a sour taste in my mouth. Finally sloppy editing doesn't help. Even if we overlook the poor screenplay, there is no excuse for sloppy editing in a big budget hollywood blockbuster. Save your time and money and rent Spartacus.

Good, but not Oscar worthy.
Normally I come to the defense of Movies I enjoy, and I enjoy Gladiator. Enough to have seen it twice at the theatre on opening weekend and buy the DVD the DAY it came out, but then the Oscar noms came in, 12 of them, including best picture, and I said, No.
Its hard for me to see this movie, and Erin Brockovich for that matter getting the nod over films such as Almost Famous, and Shadow of the Vampire which were done with so much more heart and emotion.
Gladiators good, but it ain't that good.
6 out of 10

No need to get defensive.
Hey I like Gladiator, I find it to be an enjoyable film in the same manner I find Friday the 13th to be enjoyable and Steven Segal movies, well minus Fire Down Below, but I just didn't feel it was worth all the praise it got when there were movies this year that I felt had superior acting, and writing.
No need to get defensive man.

Do you owe Mr. Crowe a favor?
Did I touch a nerve here?
Must have Russel Crowe must be your long lost brother, or maybe you see a percentage for every copy of Gladiator that gets sold or rented, I don't know.
Cruicify me for having an opinon, but let me restate some points.
1. I LIKE Gladiator
2. I OWN Gladiator
3. I don't waste money on terrible films.
4. My WHOLE basic point was to say Gladiators a good film, on of the best in 2000 for sure, but I don't feel its worthy of the praise its getting when there were movies out this year which I felt surpased Gladiator in many aspects.
Yes I do realize Im not on the Oscar comitie and if Gladiator wins then so be it, it wont be the worst film that ever won an Oscar, or even close to the bottom of the list.
Now can we end this insanity?
