Imagine getting your blood pumping after a near-miss with frostbite... It hurts, but it is the first sign you will live.
I really enjoyed this movie's bleakness. The fantasy sequences are even more aching when juxtaposed with the reality.
Yes, there is a certain emotional receptiveness that is permissible when you watch musicals, and that is one of the things she loves about them.
In the same way, I cried for an hour when I saw this at it height in San Francisco, and I DO NOT CRY IN PUBLIC.
