SON OF WIM?
When a beer-bellied 50ish German miner retires, all he has to look forward to is playing accordion polkas to geezers in his hick town--until he happens to hear some zydeco on the radio. Enchanted, he is sent New Braunfels, Texas to participate in that town's German Festival. Somehow he ends up in the bayous of Louisiana with a friendly black woman. First time director Schorr (evidently under the influence of Wim Wenders' PARIS, TEXAS), has chosen to tell his story with minimal dialogue and lots of striking visual images. The two most glaring shortcomings are a paucity of music and an unnecessarily downbeat ending. Horst Krause is excellent as our laconic pot-bellied hero.
