What a Hoot!!
I found this movie in a library in Campbell Co., KY (just outside of Cincy), and couldn't resist it! I grew up in Jeffersontown, and I lived about 10 minutes from Pope Lick Road. This movie brought back many great memories of Friday nights spent with my buds, tracking down the monster. I watched this movie with my hubby, who grew up in Louisville proper, and we both got a kick out of seeing the ol' haunting grounds again. However, in all the years spent looking for the monster, I had never heard about the sheep part--I just thought he was a crazy old hermit. I hadn't heard the part about luring victims onto the trestle, either; it seemed to me there were plenty of idiots who were happy to climb the trestle without any urging. This movie was worth watching for the memories alone! It also introduced the legend of the monster to my children, who grew up in Ohio. Unfortunately, my family has all moved away from J-town, so I don't foresee visiting that area again anytime soon. But when I do, it will be on a Friday night, and I'll take the kids down Pope Lick Road!

My experience with Pope Lick Road.
Pope Lick Road had scared me. Not to long ago a few friends and I drove there. We encountered nothing at the actual tressel but your regular night noises and imagination. The stuff went down as soon as we were leaving. We got back to the car and for some strange reason the passenger door was wide open. We made sure the doors were locked when we got out. And of course I was in the passenger seat. We really didnt pay that much attention to fact that it was open...okay maybe we did for a little bit. But we just wanted to leave. SO were driving down Pope Lick and turn right off on this street named Rielding of something like that. And as we were coming around a corner two dogs were there both of the dogs eyes were reflecting red. Thats a pretty big deal when your already freaking out in the fist place. But the wierdest thing was these two dogs would not let us get in front of them(wierd huh) We would speed up they would speed up. Finally after about 500 feet or so they turn into this driveway leading to this house that belongs in the movie "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." So we left and never turned back. Last but not least on the same road further down there was a grassy hill next to the road that was pretty steep and it was what me and one other friend of mine saw and the top and that was a flash of lights that went passed us. It looked like a Fireturck or something like that but the thing was is that there is no road up there. I know that those last two encounters really didnt have to do with Pope Lick Road but I know it had to do something with the Pope Lick Monster.....belive it or not it really happened.

teenager growing up near
As a teenager growing in J-town also living in Ohio now, I am looking for this movie. My best friend's home was the Civil War era home on the south of the trestle about 1000 yards from the tracks. We spent many hours riding dirt bikes in the area in the mid 1970's. There was always stories going around about this even though we never experienced any ourselves we did have fun on summer evenings scaring others. The crazy hermit was one of the many that was heard and many feral dogs where known to run in packs in the area. In fact not to far from the site was a illegal dog fighting pit in which was rumored to have many escapee's. The area holds many mysteries and long past stories which help fuel the legend of the monster.

Pope Lick experiences
I saw this movie several years ago. My wife is from Fisherville, which is about a mile from the Pope Lick trestles. I've been on those roads many times late at night, under adverse conditions, but I personally haven't seen anything. I now drive on Pope Lick Road almost everyday, passing the trestles. I was curious about the movie, because I always heard it was a goat-man. Once upon a time, I found a web page claims the trestles are one of the top 5 most "occult" areas in the Louisville area. The others included the old Waverly sanitarium, Sleepy Hollow, the old Central State Hospital, and Hot Rod Haven.

The goat man
We used to go to Pope Lick Road all the time when I was in high school. The stories about the crazy dogs is very true. Those dogs would be very aggressive and chase cars, and freak you out even more. I never saw a goat man, but it is a very freaky place when the sun goes down!! I wouldn't want to be out there by myself!!

These Stories are very True
I am not saying i have ever seen the goat man either but what i am saying is that those dogs and that scary ass house are!!! My story is very close to that guys above i along with my mom and brother came across a truck and its lights were on then as we passed turned them off....when we did pass it looked like the man was sleeping in the front seat. We contiuned down the road and came across those damn dogs scared the shit out of me! they do kinda of block your car very scary shit! Then on they way back out of this road that truck was there and as we passed its lights turned back on and followed us out to taylorsville road we turned right and if you have been out there there are big hills out there and as we went up the hill we lost the truck...i don't know if it is the GOAT MAN or not but that place scares the shit out of me!!!!

I grew up next to trestle
There's a house on the west end of the trestle. It's the first driveway on the left after you pass under the trestle from Taylorsville Rd. The address is 3110 S. Pope Lick Rd. My parents bought that land in the late 60's and built the house on top of the hill near the trestle. I grew up hearing all of these stories about the monster. I can't tell you how many times over the years kids would hang out on that trestle. Some were chased off by oncoming trains. Some, tragically, were forced to jump. The only dogs I know of were my own. We had several and they roamed at night. Maybe they were the ones people saw. I moved away after highschool in spring of '83. My parents sold the place in 1990. I miss that place and think of it often. The monster must have liked us. He never gave us a problem.

I DON'T MISS KENTUCKY
i AM A CALIFORNIA GUY, BUT FOR A SHORT TIME I LIVED IN A TINY LITTLE TOWN CALLED FINCHVILLE, KENTUCKY. I HAD TO TRAVEL TAYLORSVILLE ROAD TO WORK AND I STILL REMEMBER THE POPE LICK TRESSEL, AND ALL THE WEIRD LITTLE TOWNS AROUND THERE. I HAVE DEPRESSING MEMORIES ABOUT MY TIME THERE. I USED TO FISH ALOT AND WALK IN THE WOODS AND I NEVER SAW ANY STRANGE CREATURES. I BELIEVE THAT WHAT EVER PEOPLE TO BELIEVE AS THE "POPE LICK GOAT-MAN" TO BE JUST A DEFORMED AND CRAZY LOCAL THAT OCCASIONALLY GOES CRUISING AROUND. HE'S PROBABLY REALLY HAIRY AND UGLY AND HIS NAME IS PROBABLY ERIC MANDEL WITH MEDALLION MIRROR. NO, COME TO THINK OF IT, NOTHING COULD BE AS CRAZY LOOKING AS ERIC. BESIDES ERIC IS COMPLETELY BALD ON HIS CROWN. THE LITTLE TOWN NEXT TO THIS PLACE IS EQUALLY SCARRY! THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE THERE PROBABLY INVENTED THE MONSTER TO CURE THEIR BOREDOM. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY CHAIN SAW MASSACRE HOUSES IN MY LIFE. THANK GOD I AM BACK IN CALIFORNIA.
