Jack Hill's Secret Masterpiece
This movie is one of the most masterful depictions of the underbelly of Americana ever lensed!! Hill outshines anything Coppola or Bogdonovich did in the 60's, and Sid Haig plays a psycho that Jack Nicholson learned a lot from.

written and directed by the mighty jack hill, "pit stop" features excellent, distorted, blues-rock guitar with a psychedelic edge, a great noir look, and possibly sid haig's finest (and certainly dingiest) role. i have zero interest in cars, which kind of got in the way of really getting into the movie. i have to admit the "figure 8" demolition derby type carnage is good, retro fun. "pit stop" has a gamin (tom boy) free spirit, and a strong woman in a marginal role, but the feminism that would inform his later work isn't really here yet. the "hero" is a borderline sociopath i didn't identify with at all.

This is one mean ride! low,bumpy and fast! Sid Haig really shines through all the grease and engine-driven-sin,proving himself in an early jack hill nihilistic masterpiece!Full of hot chicks,Link Wray-like music fast cars and dune-buggies! Pick up a 6-pack call your dad over and let the gas burn!!!!!! Nietzsche would have loved it!
